RB Leipzig ring Rangers alarm as Yussuf Poulsen fumes and angry manager makes startling admission

RB Leipzig's Great Dane Yussuf Poulsen has demanded his colleagues improve ahead of this week's showdown with Rangers.

The Ibrox side travel to Germany to face Leipzig in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final on Thursday.

But while ten-man Rangers were winning in Motherwell, the Saxony outfit later crashed to their first defeat in 16 games against a Union Berlin side they beat in the German Cup semi-finals in midweek.

Leipzig boss Domenico Tedesco made six changes in a bid to freshen up his side, but the move backfired as they slipped to fourth place in the Bundesliga.

And Poulsen, one of Denmark's top performers at Euro 2020, wants improvement for the visit of Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side despite scoring their goal on Saturday.

He said: "It was a fair result. We didn't play anywhere near our best. It's a game where we need to learn a lot.

"For Rangers, we need to do more. We need to move more. Even when I scored, it was our first shot on target. It wasn't good enough and we know that it was unacceptable.

"Union outfought us, showed more passion than us and won the individual battles."

And Tedesco has ordered his men to get their mindset right for the visit of the Scots.

The Italian boss said: "It's important for us now to clear our heads a bit. The last few weeks have been very hectic.

"Our passing was too slow and even when we scored, it was out of nowhere. When you are 1-0 in the 86th minute and go on to lose the game, it's obviously not good enough. So, yes I was angry.

"I don't regret making the six changes. I wanted to give some of them a rest. But Union Berlin were a little livelier, a little fresher and wanted the win more."
