RB Leipzig decision that could impact Tottenham's search for Jose Mourinho's successor

Tottenham are reportedly interested in Wolfsburg coach Oliver Glasner to replace Jose Mourinho as manager, but they are up against a tight deadline if they do wish to appoint the Bundesliga target.

According to the Express, the 46-year-old has become a surprise outsider target for Spurs after Mourinho was sacked last week.

Spurs had reportedly made Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann their top target to replace Mourinho, but the young coach has agreed to move to Bayern Munich at the end of the current season.

Nagelsmann's move triggered Leipzig into action, with Glasner looking set to become their new boss. However, they have instead appointed American coach Jesse Marsch from sister club Red Ball Salzburg, leaving Glasner at Wolfsburg.

According to the report, Spurs are keen on talking to the manager about taking over in North London, but will have to move quickly if they do wish to secure his services.

Glasner's current deal with Wolfsburg contains a break clause that can be activated for a fee of £4.3million.

However, that clause expires at the end of April, meaning Spurs would only have until the end of Friday to secure a deal for Glasner.

That may prove unlikely, though football.london understands that Tottenham are aiming to appoint a new permanent manager by the end of the 2020/21 season.

Ajax boss Erik ten Haag is the current bookies' favourite to take the job ahead of Maurizio Sarri after Brendan Rodgers distanced himself from reports linking him to Spurs.
