RB Eno Benjamin released by Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals announced a roster move that will come as a surprise. They have released running back Eno Benjamin.

Benjamin had been the team’s primary back to James Conner and even started three games while Conner was injured.

His 113 total yards from scrimmage (12 rushes for 92 yards and a touchdown, four catches for 21 yards) were key in the Cardinals’ 42-34 win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 7.

He has 299 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 4.3 yards per attempt, which ios the highest average among the team’s running backs.

It is not known whether the move is football-motivated or if there is something off the field that has come into play.

Benjamin is a popular player, as he played collegiately for Arizona State. He was selected in the seventh round of the 2020 draft and has gradually increased his role each season.

Entering this season, he was one of the most impressive players in the offseason. Coach Kliff Kingsbury raved about his work ethic and approach, saying he looked like he could be a starting running back.

We will surely find out if this is something beyond a football decision and whether another team claims him by tomorrow afternoon.

He could be re-signed to the practice squad if he clears waivers, should the Cardinals want to keep him on the team.
