The Tennessee Titans have a lot of important decisions to make this offseason — and there’s already been plenty of moving and shaking going on between the loss of secondary coach Kerry Coombs, the retirement of defensive coordinator Dean Pees and signing multiple players to futures contracts.
But one thing that remains high up on the priority list is determining the future of star running back Derrick Henry with the team.
Henry told ESPN in a short interview during Pro Bowl activities that he wants to remain a Titan if at all possible.
“I’d definitely like to stay in Tennessee,” he said.
It’s been quite a season for Henry, who has seen more than his fair share of ups-and-downs since he was drafted by the Titans in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Alabama.
From playing second-fiddle to fellow rusher Dion Lewis, who could very well not be returning to Nashville next season, to being used improperly and not getting enough carries — it certainly hasn’t all been smooth.
But this season, Henry finished out the regular season with the NFL’s rushing title, surpassing Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb and recording a career-high 1,540 yards on the ground.
With only Super Bowl LIV left to be played, he can also still finish out as the NFL’s leading rusher through the postseason.
The big back’s total of 446 yards over three contests are still 168 more than San Francisco’s Raheem Mostert, who sits behind Henry on the list.
This year marks Henry’s first Pro Bowl appearance.
