Ray Dempsey confirmed as new Limerick football boss

Roscommon may be the only county without a senior manager next week after Ray Dempsey was unveiled as the new Limerick boss on a two year agreement.

Rory Kavanagh’s appointment as Donegal manager is expected to be formally announced in the aftermath of his St. Eunan’s Letterkenny side’s county final meeting with Naomh Conaill tomorrow.

Roscommon are still without a boss after Kieran Donaghy rubbished speculation linking him with the post last week.

Former Roscommon player Don Connellan has been linked with the job, but his Moycullen side face Claregalway in the Galway quarter-finals tomorrow.

Limerick were the only other county that didn’t have a manager, but they have moved quickly to secure the services of Dempsey, who was in the running for the Mayo post.

Dempsey led Knockmore to back to back Mayo county titles in 2020/21 and is highly regarded in managerial circles.

He is a former All-Ireland finalist as a player, making 64 appearances for Mayo, while he also had spells as Mayo minor and under-21 boss.

"The executive committee are delighted to confirm the appointment of Ray Dempsey as the new Limerick senior football manager subject to ratification by both the football and county committees," read a Limerick GAA statement.

"Details of his back-room team will be announced in the coming weeks."

Dempsey stated: "I am looking forward to the challenge and am hugely excited to be working with the group of players and building on their achievements of the last number of years.”
