Ray Allen says he didn’t ‘save’ LeBron James: ‘That’s what teams do’

Ray Allen hears it everyday. And just because he hears it every day doesn’t mean he agrees with the notion that advanced by many a LeBron detractor: that Allen’s shot in Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals saved James and legacy.

Allen was asked about the oft-cited notion by folks trying to cut down LeBron’s legacy, that he saved him. If anything, Allen said that the same argument could be made by James for having put the Heat in position to win a championship in the first place. As Allen said at the end of his answer rather expertly: saving each other is what teams do.

Of course, as most Heat fans will tell you, the process of that shot displayed the teamwork of that team. Although LeBron missed his three, it was rebounded by Chris Bosh and then kicked out to Allen for the legendary three. Allen knows that, even if the narrative pushed by LeBron’s detractors makes him look better.
