Mohamed Salah opened the scoring as he rounded off a counter-attacker after James Tarkowski was denied by the post. Following the interval, Cody Gakpo doubled the host's lead.
The Blues failed to follow up from their impressive win over Arsenal as they struggled against Liverpool which highlighted a number of issues facing the new boss after naming four defenders on the bench with Ellis Simms making his start for Everton.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin wasn't passed fit for the trip across Stanley Park after being sacrificed against Arsenal shortly after the hour mark. There was no place in the starting 11 for Neal Maupay but he came on in the latter stages.
It was a first defeat for the 51-year-old since he replaced Frank Lampard as he looks to steer Everton clear of relegation trouble. Their attention will immediately turn to Leeds United on Saturday as 17th takes on 18th.
