Rapid Vienna winger Nicolas Kuhn 'nearing £3m Celtic transfer move'

Rapid Vienna winger Nicolas Kuhn is reportedly nearing a transfer switch to Celtic.

It's claimed the 24-year-old is in discussions with Celtic over becoming the club's first signing of the January window.

Kuhn - a former Germany youth international - is a key player for Austrian side Rapid and could command a fee in the region of £3m.

He is under contract with the club until 2026 after signing a lengthy deal on his arrival from Bayern Munich in a £500,000 deal in summer 2022.

The Scottish Sun reports Celtic have "stepped up their interest" in Kuhn, while reports elsewhere suggest a deal is close to being finalised.

It's claimed further talks, after initial discussions, will take place in the coming days over the transfer interest.

However, Rapid Vienna are expected to hold firm on their valuation of Kuhn with a reluctance to sell their prized asset.

Brendan Rodgers has been vocal in his admissions over hoping to add to his squad in the January window.

The Celtic boss has been keen to add further quality to his side since the summer window closed.

And he revealed he would have to dip into the market should players be called to the Asian Cup - beginning this month.

Both Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda have been selected for the Japan national team - but Kyogo Furuhashi will remain available for Celtic after missing out.

Oh Hyeon-gyu and Yang Hyun-jun have been called up for South Korea for the tournament.

Rodgers previously stated: "Obviously we have been trying to anticipate the guys over the last few months who are going away to the Asian Cup so clearly if Daizen [Maeda] and Kyogo [Furuhashi] are away then we would have to do something in the market."
