Ranvir Singh tells off Richard Madeley as he butchers name of Lancashire village on Good Morning Britain

Ranvir Singh was quick to correct Richard Madeley on Good Morning Britain today as he butchered the name of a Lancashire village.

The presenters were speaking about the cost of living crisis following the news fish and chips could almost double in price. They were joined by the National Federation of Fish Friers, Andrew Crook, who revealed the impact of the Ukraine-Russia war and VAT increase.

However, when introducing Andrew to GMB, Richard butchered the pronunciation of the Lancashire village of Euxton, where Andrew's shop is located. He said: "Well, joining us now 'Youx-ton' in Lancashire is...."

Ranvir interrupted and gave Richard a small nudge. She repeated twice 'Ex-ton', which is the correct pronunciation.

Richard said: "Ex-ton, so sorry, actually I knew that cause I used to be up there, but sorry." Fortunately, his pronunciation made Andrew laugh and they resumed the interview.

Ranvir has close ties to Lancashire, having been born in the city of Preston. She attended Kirkham Grammar School before studying English and Philosophy at the University of Lancaster. Ranvir later gained a postgraduate qualification in journalism at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston.

She joined BBC Radio Lancashire in 2002, before working with BBC North West to cover North West Tonight as a journalist and presenter.

Richard was a presenter of Granada Reports in the early 1980s, where he met his wife, Judy Finnegan.
