LONDON, UK — ITV presenter Ranvir Singh was forced to drop out of hosting Lorraine at the last minute on Friday morning due to illness, prompting Andi Peters to step in with little notice.
The popular morning programme has been rotating hosts in recent weeks following Lorraine Kelly’s temporary departure for surgery. The 65-year-old Scottish broadcaster revealed she was undergoing a preventative procedure to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes after a period of feeling unwell.
“Just wanted to let you know I’m having a wee procedure today,” Lorraine wrote on social media. “I’ve not been feeling all that well for a little while, so I had some scans and tests, and I have to have my ovaries and my tubes taken out.” She added that the procedure would be done via keyhole surgery and assured fans: “I’m being very well looked after… and I’m gonna be totally fine.”
In her absence, the show has seen a mix of guest hosts, including Christine Lampard, Sian Welby, and Ranvir Singh, who stepped in earlier this week. However, Ranvir, 47, was unexpectedly absent on Friday, according to Metro.
Opening the programme, Andi Peters addressed the sudden change, saying: “First things first, I’ve just got to say get well soon to Ranvir who can’t be here today, so they’ve drafted in a man in a bright orange shirt just to make sure you’re awake this morning!”
He added warmly, “Get well soon Ranvir, we send you all of our love.” Although Ranvir has not publicly commented on her illness, she had been active on the show earlier in the week. On Tuesday, she interviewed Joy Trew, a 98-year-old veteran of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, who shared memories of intercepting German radio transmissions during World War II.
During the emotional segment, Ranvir received praise for her compassionate response, comforting Joy with a heartfelt hug after she was presented with a certificate from Prime Minister Keir Starmer and a commemorative badge. Ranvir also appeared on Wednesday’s episode, while Christine Lampard returned on Thursday to host a special VE Day edition.
As for Lorraine Kelly, she has been keeping fans updated on her recovery via Instagram, where she boasts more than 572,000 followers. In a recent post, she shared a photo smiling alongside the medical team who cared for her at Heatherwood Hospital.
“Huge thanks to these kind, caring, gorgeous professionals… back home now and following doctors’ orders to rest up,” she wrote, also expressing gratitude to her surgeon, Mr Ahmed Rafaat. It remains unclear when Lorraine will return to the show, but her updates suggest a smooth recovery is underway.
