Rankine wants ultimate AFL honour for Suns

Izak Rankine says belief is growing among the playing group at AFL club Gold Coast. (AAP)

Gold Coast forward Izak Rankine believes his future with the Suns will sort itself out but he's desperate to be a part of the club's rise to the AFL's elite.

Rankine had arguably his best game in Suns' colours in last Sunday's opening round triumph over West Coast at Optus Stadium.

The mercurial talent kicked a career-best four goals, provided two goal assists and had 23 disposals in the 27-point win.

Rankine and fellow South Australian Jack Lukosius are the two biggest Suns' names yet to secure a deal beyond the 2022 season after injured key forward Ben King inked a two-year extension earlier this month.

The 21-year-old's display against the Eagles is sure to drum up plenty of interest but Rankine is talking the talk of a man who isn't planning on switching clubs anytime soon.

"I'm just focused on playing footy at the moment, contracts will fall into place," Rankine told AAP.

"I'm really excited for the future of the club, the future that we're really trying to create and the culture that we're trying to build here."

Taken with pick No.3 in the 2018 draft, Rankine's debut didn't come until 2020 after a horror run of injury in his first year with the Suns.

After making 18 appearances in 2021, Rankine was dropped for the final four games of last season's campaign but he believes he's ready to deliver his best football this year.

"If you look at the patterns of other past players, it takes almost four years exactly to get yourself into the system," he said.

"This is a really important season for me, and for our club in general.

"I just want to make sure I can do the most I can do for the team to get some wins on the board to make finals.

"We want to win a grand final that's for sure."
