Rangers transfer roundup as Danilho Doekhi exit verdict puts clubs on alert

Vitesse Arnhem's technical director has conceded Rangers-linked Danilho Doekhi could leave the club this summer.

Steven Gerrard has been credited with an interest in the centre-back, alongside Newcastle United and Fulham.

The 23-year-old former Ajax youth is a key man for the Eredivisie side but Johannes Spors admits the club are being realistic about their chances of keeping him.

Doekhi is also a reported target for Serie A outfit Atalanta and Spors has suggested he expects interest in the player to grow as the transfer window progresses.

Speaking to Voetbal International, he's implied Vitesse will sell if the price is right.

Meanwhile, former Rangers youngster Dapo Mebude has signed for Watford.

The 19-year-old has signed a two-year contract at the Premier League club, with the option to extend for a further two seasons.

Mebude left Ibrox upon the expiry of his contract this summer and will now continue his career with the Hornets.

That announcement followed the forward's brother Dire Mebude clinching a professional deal at Manchester City.

The 17-year-old moved into the Premier League champions' academy from Ibrox in September 2020 and has now been rewarded with a first senior deal.

Elsewhere, Dejan Ljubicic has claimed he turned down the chance to join Rangers last summer.

The former Rapid Vienna captain signed for FC Köln in Germany, a move he felt offered him the best chance of regular football.

Ljubicic said: "I had offers from several clubs in Germany and I was also in Italy for negotiations and Glasgow Rangers wanted me too.

"I decided on Cologne early on, but I admit I was worried when they had to win their relegation play-offs.

"My family and I decided immediately Cologne was the place for me because I will definitely get a start there too.

"Everyone wants to play for their country. I hope my performances in Cologne will convince manager Franco Foda to pick me for the World Cup qualifiers."
