Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos earns Colombia recall as red-hot star wins Carlos Queiroz over

In-form Alfredo Morelos has been called up for Colombia's friendlies against Chile and Algeria later this month. .

Carlos Queiroz will have been alerted after the Rangers forward blasted 13 goals in an explosive start to the season.

Morelos has three international caps to date and made his first start in the 2-1 defeat to South Korea in March but has been snubbed since then.

The forward didn't make the 40-man preliminary squad for the Copa America, a fact made more painful by Queiroz's inclusion of TEN other strikers.

The snub came after disciplinary problems in the Premiership that saw him dismissed in a crucial league tie against Celtic, his fifth red card of last season.

That was an unwanted European record for the 23-year-old but this term he has cleaned up his act significantly with only three yellow cards in 17 games.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has praised this new, significantly more composed attitude on the pitch and that has been rewarded by his international boss.

He said: "There's definitely been signs of maturity and improvement in his behaviour.

"I think he's trying everything he can to improve that department in his game.

"We're doing everything we can and so are the players to help him. He's still young and will still make mistakes moving forward.

"But since that moment there's definitely been a marked improvement.

"We don't want to take the fire and competitive edge away from him because we believe that's a big part of his game.

"All we ask is that people give him a chance out there and treat him like everybody else gets treated.

"But I'm really proud of his behaviour so far."
