Rangers still 'well in' RB Leipzig Europa League tie as Sutton offers praise

Chris Sutton delivers Rangers Europa League verdict after RB Leipzig defeat

CHRIS SUTTON reckons Rangers are still "well in" the Europa League semi-final tie against RB Leipzig despite a first-leg defeat.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side battled to an impressive defensive performance in Germany with the hosts enjoying large spells of pressure and possession.

And despite a strong display from Rangers, a late volley from Angelino earned a lead for Leipzig. The full-back slammed home first-time from the edge of the box with five minutes left.

However, Sutton reckons Rangers can still turn around the tie as he insisted they're not out of the two-legged semi-final with a home leg at Ibrox to come.

But, the Celtic hero did reserve special praise for the winning goal as he insisted it was a "moment of brilliance" from the Spanish full-back.

Posting on Twitter, Sutton wrote: "Rangers fought hard and still well in this tie.

"A moment of brilliance decided the game from Angelino late on.

"Tremendous volley which you have to applaud."

Earlier in the evening Ally McCoist branded the match against Leipzig as the "biggest test" for Rangers.

Speaking to BT Sport, he said: “Let’s not kid ourselves on, this is the biggest test so far.

“I’ve been pinching myself all day thinking of where Rangers are at this moment in time.

“A European semi-final is absolutely remarkable.

“No matter what happens in the next week ago it’s an incredible achievement.

“Their best performances this year have been in Europe and they need one tonight.”
