Rangers star Scott Arfield in defiant 'we'll be back' vow as he opens up on Europa league final defeat in Seville

Scott Arfield says there is no reason why Rangers can't go all the way in Europe next season.

The Light Blues suffered a heartbreaking penalties defeat to Frankfurt in the final of the Europa League on Thursday night.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Co had been sensational on their run to Seville which included scalps over Bundesliga duo Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.

Aaron Ramsey's missed penalty in the shootout was a devastating way to lose out in the showpiece on Wednesday night.

Arfield admits losing in those circumstances is a tough one to take.

But he has no doubt that Rangers have the qualities to regroup and go again next season.

And sees no reason why they can't go the distance once more.

Speaking about the defeat in Seville, he said: “It is tough to take, absolutely. I think you can see it in our faces how hard it is to take. Losing on penalties at any stage in any competition is hard but in the final is tough.

“But as always I try to put a positive spin on things and I said in the dressing room we’ll be back.

“This team has come too far to let one final destabilise it.

“We’ll be back, no doubt about it. When you get here it probably feels a bit like a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"It’s probably the first time in your career you are going to get here. But once you are here you get a taste for it and feel as if you can get back to it.

“I think if you look at the teams we have beaten along the way, there is no reason we can’t do that again next year. No doubt about it.

“We will strengthen in the summer, get better players in, get better again.

“The manager will have a pre-season and we’ll crack on and see where it takes us.”
