Rangers shut out again by Rays as September struggles continue

ARLINGTON, Texas _ The Rangers continued to slide, producing only four hits in a 4-0 loss to Tampa Bay. They have been shut out in each of the first two games of the series, producing a total of six hits.

The Rangers have lost 15 of their last 21 games. In the jockeying for position in the 2019 draft, the Rangers dropped behind Cincinnati and have the seventh-worst record in the majors.

Rangers starter Yovani Gallardo allowed three runs in five innings. Gallardo is 1-5 with a 7.39 ERA for his last seven starts. Opponents are hitting .331 against him in that span.

Tampa Bay left-hander Blake Snell held the Rangers to one single in five innings for his 20th victory, most in the majors.

"He's got exceptional stuff," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said of Snell. "The guy's having a Cy Young-type year."

Willy Adames hit a two run home run in the fourth inning, and Joey Wendle (4-for-5) and Ji-man Choi each knocked in a run for the Rays.
