Rangers ready for homemade flag solution with cinch sponsorship spat likely to impact title celebration

Rangers could hoist a home made league flag when they mark last season’s title triumph next month.

The Ibrox club postponed the traditional unfurling from the first day of the season, preferring to wait until a full house was permitted so that as many fans could enjoy the day as possible.

That will happen on 18 September before their home Premiership clash with Motherwell.

But it’s likely they’ll have to produce their own flag as their sponsorship spat with league sponsors cinch rumbles on, reports the Daily Record.

The Gers have refused to use any of the car company’s branding this season, claiming to have found a legal loophole that allows them to priorities their own partners.

Chairman Douglas Park owns a used car firm and sees cinch as a competitor.

The organisation are thought to be furious and have been investigating which legal options are open to them.

They and the SPFL had hoped that the case would be referred to the Scottish FA for arbitration, but they were dealt a blow yesterday after Park won an interim interdict preventing that from happening without his company being involved.

And that seems to have torpedoed any hopes that the matter could be resolved by the time Steven Gerrard and his players watch the championship flag being unfurled for the first time in ten years.

Other league winners - Hearts, Partick Thistle and Cove Rangers - were sent cinch branded flags to fly at their respective stadiums, although Hearts’ one was sent to Firhill by mistake.

With Rangers ’ anti-cinch stance continuing, they will have to come up with their own to fly above Ibrox in a few weeks’ time.
