Rangers player ratings in late Europa League loss to RB Leipzig

Rangers player ratings in late Europa League loss to RB Leipzig

Allan McGregor 6

Wasn’t tested until 53 minutes in when he punched clear a fierce Christian Nkunku strike. He denied Tyler Adams with a similar effort late in the day but was left despairing as Angelino’s volley wrongfooted the keeper

Borna Barisic 6

Looked nervous in the first-half but grew into the match and linked well with Kent in the second-half. A steady performance but restricted in how much he could push forward.

Calvin Bassey 7

Deployed at centre-back the Nigerian continues to impress in the Rangers backline. Powerful in the air and in the tackle and burst out of defence to give his team-mates some breathing space on occasion.

Connor Goldson 7

A tremendous and vitally important challenge on Conrad Laimer after 18 minutes summed up his night. A towering display with the hosts threatening most of the evening, commanded the rest of the back-five throughout.

John Lundstram 6

Moved back into the back-five by Giovanni van Bronckhorst and showed his defensive ability. Some crucial blocks and clearances as part of a resolute backline.

James Tavernier 6

Different side of his game required on a busy night defensively in Germany. Tavernier was forced into a much more quiet night on the attacking front but was still among the most advanced when Rangers threatened. Sound defensively.

Glen Kamara 6

One of few Rangers players who looked composed on the ball in a nervy opening period with Leipzig holding much of the ball and pressure. Threw himself into challenges in midfield and offered a cool head.

Ryan Jack 6

Went about his defensive duties well at a difficult venue. Did the unseen work in the midfield and was very disciplined in his positioning all night long.

Scott Wright 5

Not the night he’d have hoped for. Given a major opportunity but struggled to offer any real threat going forward. Starved of service in first-half and reduced to a pressing role.

Joe Aribo 7

Quieter in the first-half when Rangers were pinned back. But was a key player in the second as he served as a target-man of sorts to haul his side forward. Usual tidy play on the ball.

Ryan Kent 7

A big part of anything good for Rangers going forward. Earned priceless free-kicks to ease pressure in the first-half. Came desperately close to an opener minutes into the second-half but was maybe slow to press Angelino for the winner.

Fashion Sakala (for Wright, 69) 3

On for the final 20 minutes and struggled to see much of the ball.

Scott Arfield (for Jack, 83) 2

Offered some energy in closing minutes but didn’t have any real possession.

James Sands (for Aribo, 83) 2

Thrown into the midfield for the final few minutes.
