Rangers outcast transfer latest as loan club 'decide against' permanent deal

Rangers outcast Jose Cifuentes' future remains up in the air with a suggestion loan club Aris Thessaloniki don't want to keep him.

The midfielder joined the Greek side on a temporary transfer last August after a previous loan in Brazil with Cruzeiro. Aris are believed to hold an option to sign him permanently for £3million.

His time at the club didn't start how he would have hoped and it was thought he could be sent back to Glasgow prematurely after some poor performances were followed by turning up late for training.

After Apostolos Mantzios' appointment as manager though, the Ecuadorian's fortunes changed for the better and he has been a key man for much of the season.

With 23 appearances under his belt, Cifuentes has won praise from the Greek media for his displays during his loan.

It was claimed in recent days Aris were looking to make the loan permanent but would try to negotiate the fee down to a lower level.

However, another report from Ecuador has cast doubt on that.

Studio Futbol are claiming Aris have decided not to pursue the 26-year-old any further. They say that despite his strong performances, the Greeks have decided not to take up their option to sign Cifuentes.

As a result, he will be expected to return to Rangers in the summer but it would be viewed as highly unlikely he will have a future at Ibrox either.

Gers will be entering a new era under new owners and a new manager and are expected to make significant changes to the make up of their squad.

Cifuentes made just six starts for the club after being signed from Los Angeles FC  by Michael Beale, who described his signing as a potential game change. The midfielder still has two years left on his deal.
