Rangers on alert for Europa League D-Day as UEFA set to answer major transfer question

Rangers are set to be handed details of their Europa League return by June 17.

The Light Blues are likely to be told the second leg of their last 16 tie against Bayer Leverkusen will go ahead in August.

UEFA will also provide details of player eligibility with squad stars such as Andy Halliday, Wes Foderingham and Florian Kamberi no longer part of the club.

Discussions are ongoing at UEFA committee level to decide if any new signings made this summer can play in the tournament held over from last season.

They will go to UEFA’s executive committee for final approval at its next meeting in a fortnight.

Rangers' round of 16 tie is scheduled to be played at the Bay Arena, with quarantine measures for elite sport set to be relaxed by the UK government early next month.

Leverkusen are guarding a 3-1 first leg lead from the Ibrox match, played on March 12.

Kai Havertz, Christian Aranguiz and Leon Bailey netted for the Germans, with George Edmundson scoring for Steven Gerrard’s side.
