Rangers loanee Chris McKee faces SFA probe after Brechin red card for 'homophobic' language

Brechin City player Chris McKee was sent off for foul and abusive language understood to be of a homophobic nature during the pyramid play-off that sent the Glebe Park side crashing out of the SPFL.

On a day when history was made for City and promoted Kelty Hearts - for very differing reasons - a 40th minute red card for on-loan Rangers forward McKee, believed to be a homophobic slur, soured a pulsating play-off.

It also spelled the end of any hopes Brechin had of saving their 68-year league status while McKee will now face an SFA probe for his outburst.

The pyramid play-off featured the same three teams that would have competed had the covid pandemic not shelved the end-of-season battle last term.

Kelty overcame Highland League champions Brora Rangers in a 6-1 aggregate thrashing to set up the clash with Brechin.

Barry Ferguson's side had the advantage after Tuesday's first leg, taking a 2-1 lead to Glebe Park for the finale.

Michael Tidser's goal with two minutes to go clinched the tie after the unsavoury scenes earlier in the match.
