Rangers kid Josh McPake completes Morecambe loan move

Josh McPake has completed his loan move from Rangers to English League One side Morecambe - linking up with former Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson.

The Coatbridge kid has signed a new two-year extension at Ibrox to keep him tied to the club until summer 2024 and heads out for another loan spell to gain vital first team experience, having spent last season at Harrogate Town in EFL League Two and also briefly at Scottish Championship side Morton.

McPake had been linked with a switch to Motherwell, but former Fir Park gaffer Robinson has won the race to land the talented teen, who also had Oldham and Doncaster chasing his signature.

The winger enjoyed a great season down south, winning the FA Trophy with Town at Wembley and making over 20 appearances.

McPake told the Morecambe FC's website: "I played in League Two and it was a tough league to get in but I’m glad to be out of it and taking another step up.

“I was playing with Harrogate last season, so I played against Morecambe a few times and I thought they were quite a good team and they deserved to get promotion.

“I’m looking forward to getting in and seeing the lads.”

Boss Stephen Robinson said: "Josh is a boy I’ve kept close tabs on from Scotland.

"He’s had a couple of loans now which is good, and I can see him getting better and better with each minute of football.

“Towards the end of his loan at Harrogate last season, he scored goals and he’s somebody that can play anywhere across the front three.

“He creates chances and he’s a really exciting signing for us.

“He’s still young, they think very highly of him at Rangers and Steven Gerrard and the staff have been brilliant letting us have him, so we’re grateful that we’ve got him here and I think the fans will enjoy watching him."

McPake's signing follows the arrival of a familiar face at the Shrimps, former St Mirren hitman Jon Obika, who joined on Tuesday.
