Rangers flop Carlos Pena finds new club as striker drops down to third tier

Carlos Pena has dropped down to the Mexican third tier to sign with FC Guerreros de la Plata.

The Rangers flop walked out on his previous employer Atletico Veracruzano last month after they failed to pay his wages.

And the former Ibrox striker has now made his next move and has taken the decision to make the switch to the Mexican minnows.

The club said in a statement: "We want to announce with great emotion and pride the signing of Carlos Pena.

"Carlos is a two-time Mexican football champion with Leon and his experience will be an enormous help to our young players."

The 30-year-old had a horror spell with the Scottish Premiership league leaders after he was signed by former boss Pedro Caixinha for £3million.

Pena had two disastrous loan moves in Mexico and another in Poland, before his contract with Steven Gerrard's side was ripped up in February 2019 by mutual consent.

The attacker has now taken the step down to the third tier in an attempt to kick-start his career with FC Guerreros de la Plata.
