Rangers FC news round-up: Michael Stewart apology, Beaton's comical tackle and Celtic fallout

Rangers FC news round-up: Michael Stewart apology, Beaton's comical tackle and Celtic fallout

AFTER Sunday's 1-1 draw with Celtic at Parkhead, Rangers' attention now turns back to the Europa League.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team have it all to do if they want to book their spot in the final of the competition, but with a sell-out Ibrox crowd behind them, anything can happen.

RB Leipzig currently lead 1-0 after the first leg, so Rangers know they will need to score at least two goals to turn the tie around.

Here are today's top Rangers stories...

Stewart apology

MICHAEL STEWART has issued an apology to former Rangers communications chief Jim Traynor.

Over two years ago, the former Hearts captain appeared on BBC's Sportsound show, as he discussed the Ibrox club's head of communications at the time.

Stewart is a regular contributor to the broadcaster's radio show, as well as their weekly Sportscene TV coverage of Scottish football.

Beaton tackle

IT was a busy afternoon for John Beaton on Sunday as the referee handed out seven yellow cards over the course of the Celtic vs Rangers clash.

The whistler was also involved in a hilarious incident as he tripped up Hoops midfielder Matt O'Riley by accident as he looked to break at pace.

Both O'Riley and Beaton tumbled to the ground before returning to their feet and getting back in amongst the action.

Celtic fallout

CELTIC say it's "extremely regrettable" that a section of their supporters were injured by missiles thrown after their match with Rangers today.

Earlier this evening, Rangers slammed "attacks" on their fans inside Parkhead this afternoon, stating that elderly and disabled fans had sustained injuries as a result of alleged bottle throwing incidents.

After full-time in the 1-1 stalemate, reports emerged of bottle and missile throwing inside the stadium.
