Rangers fans appalled at Red Star 'away end' that features marked and broken seats

Travelling Rangers fans paid an early visit to Red Star's Rajko Mitic Stadium and were appalled to see a section littered with broken seats and apparent burn marks.

The Ibrox side head to Belgrade to take on the Serbian champions, who returned to the top of their domestic league by beating Metalac on Monday night, in the Europa League last 16.

They carry a 3-0 lead from the first leg courtesy of goals from James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and Leon Balogun.

That's made Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men heavy favourites to continue to the quarter-finals, which would be their best run in Europe since Walter Smith took his men to the 2008 UEFA Cup Final.

First though they must navigate the white-hot atmosphere of Red Star's famous ground, also known as the Marakana.

Late last month it hosted the 'Eternal Derby' against city rivals Partizan – which saw sections of the ground set on fire by the visitors.

And footage shared on social media from a popular Rangers fan page appeared to show no effort has been made to repair the damage ahead of the visit.

Broken white seats are visible in a curved section behind one of the goals, along with what appear to be burn marks.

Fans reacted with disgust as one said: "It looks like they have stuck them on for us coming."

Another replied: "Well here is hoping we don't need to be sitting when we pop a few goals in."

Another commented: "That’s out of order, how can they charge people for that?"

The clip finishes by panning to another section over a red fence to reveal gleaming red seats as a man is heard saying off camera: "Look at theirs!"
