Rangers eye long-term Alfredo Morelos deal as striker prepares to commit Ibrox future

Alfredo Morelos

ALFREDO MORELOS is set to end any uncertainty over his future by putting pen-to-paper on a long-term deal to commit himself to Rangers for the coming years.

Boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst revealed on Monday that the striker is in talks over fresh terms as he continues his recovery from the injury that ruled him out of the closing stages of last season.

And Herald and Times Sport understands a deal is all-but in place that will see Morelos stay in Glasgow well beyond the end of his current contract.

Rangers remain in discussions with Morelos and his representatives and talks are ongoing over the length of deal that will be put on the table for the Colombian to sign.

The 26-year-old was part of the squad that Van Bronckhorst put through their paces at Ibrox as he continues preparations for his sixth season with Rangers and he showed no ill-effects of the thigh injury that he sustained in April.

Morelos was strongly linked with a move to Sevilla earlier this summer but he is now poised to sign on once again and confirm his place as an integral part of Van Bronckhorst's plans ahead of Rangers' bid to regain their Premiership title this term.

Van Bronckhorst said: "At the moment he is training in a big part of the session, which is a good sign.

"Every session he looks better and sharper so we are monitoring his development really closely in the coming weeks because when he is fit he is one option for me up front.

"We all know his quality. I would rather have him back as quickly as possible.

"I am only looking at his physical fitness at the moment. He has been out for a long time but is working really hard to get back to the levels that he has to be to perform in games.

"Of course the other issue is the contract he has. He is very positive about signing a new contract, we are doing our best to get Morelos to sign a new contract as well.

"Hopefully in the next coming weeks we will sort it out but the talks are going."
