Rangers earn Ianis Hagi focus as Romania boss plays waiting game over comeback star

Recovering Rangers star Ianis Hagi's international comeback has been put on hold after Romania left him out of their Euro 2024 qualifiers later this month.

Hagi is back in action for Rangers after 13 months out following a serious knee injury picked up last season in the Scottish Cup against Stirling Albion. He returned to action last month as a sub in a league win against St Johnstone and then started the Scottish Cup game against Partick Thistle before being hooked at half time. His famous father Gheorghe Hagi insisted this week that fans should be patient with his son after such a long period out, but insisted he would soon be back to his best.

And Romania boss Edi Iordanescu has resisted the temptation to include him in his squad for their qualifiers against Andorra and Belarus in a couple of weeks for what would have been his first international cap for two years.

He said: "I have not included Ianis in the squad and myself and the staff of the national team do not want to force things with him. We would prefer to wait for Ianis and allow him to recover in his own time get in shape and get games at Rangers."
