Steven Gerrard has revealed Rangers are closing in on their eighth summer signing.
And the Ibrox boss insists it will be a permanent deal for a defender after watching his side dismantle St Joseph's on Tuesday night.
Gerrard handed competitive debuts to Jordan Jones, Sheyi Ojo, Joe Aribo and Greg Stewart in a 4-0 Europa League first-round qualifying win over the Gibraltarians.
And, if the manager gets his way, another new face will be on board before the return leg at Ibrox next week.
He said: “It will be a permanent deal for a defender. There is still a way to go but we have had some progress in the last couple of days.
“If things progress as they have in the last 48 hours, I’m hoping something will get done by the end of the week.”
Four second-half goals from Ryan Jack, Ojo, Borna Barisic and Alfredo Morelos sealed a comfortable Rangers win at the Victoria Stadium.
Gerrard was pleased at being able to bring the likes of Morelos, Stewart and Joe Aribo off the bench and insists the club's rapid recruitment in the summer window will be a gamechanger during the season ahead.
He added: "I'm hoping over the course of the season that'll be the difference. We had times last season where, with all due respect, if we had injuries and suspensions we never had that level of quality to bring on.
"The reason we've gone into the transfer market quite sharply is to add that quality and you see the level of player we're bringing off the bench.
"Aribo was fantastic when he came on, Alfredo gets his goal and Greg shows his quality as well."
