Rangers boss Steven Gerrard on 'Besiktas' radar' as Super Lig side channel David Beckham strategy

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is on Besiktas' managerial radar - according to a report.

Using a big name player or manager is a strategy often deployed by presidential candidates within football and it's currently election season in Turkey.

Joan Laporta famously fuelled his Barcelona bid by guaranteeing he would bring David Beckham to the Nou Camp in 2003.

That ambitious move fell short but still handed Laporta the key to power in Catolonia.

And now beIN Sports ' Turkey expert Mehmet Demirkol is hoping to make a splash if he emerges victorious in the upcoming vote.

Current boss Abdullah Avci is feeling the heat with Besiktas currently languishing in 12th place.

That could lead to some fireworks to re-energise the fanbase with the Rangers manager garnering interest from the Super Lig big-hitters.

Demirkol said: "I heard one of the strong candidates, Ahmet Nur Cebi, has a different name in his mind.

"Steven Gerrard’s name is being discussed.

Gerrard has been earmarked for an eventual Liverpool return (Colin Lane)

"Also, I know Sergen Yalcin could replace Abdullah Avci if he wins the race.”

Gerrard, who has been mentioned with other vacancies, is loving life at Ibrox as he eyes ending Celtic's Premiership dominance.

Jurgen Klopp revealed last month the Liverpool Icon is the man he wants to replace him in the Anfield dugout once the German moves on.
