Rangers boss Steven Gerrard issues update on club's search for new striker

Steven Gerrard has issued an update on Rangers' search for a new striker, and insists they are on the lookout for the "right name" and won't be rushed.

The hamstring injury suffered by Jermain Defoe in the midweek friendly win over Motherwell leaves Rangers short on options in attack, with Alfredo Morelos the only recognised number nine currently at the club.

Gerrard admitted midweek that the injury to Defoe could intensify their search for a new frontman, and issued a further update on the situation after this evening's win over Coventry City.

He told Premier Sports: "We've been quite open with that. We are actively looking to strengthen in that area, but as I said last week, we have to be patient and make sure that we get the right one in.

"We can't make a decision just for the short term. We have to think about the big picture, and the long term. We'll only go in for the right name who can help us over the course of 60 games, rather than someone who can help us for the next few weeks."
