Rangers' Alfredo Morelos 'cant touch' Jota as Celtic hero bites back at Kris Boyd

Frank McAvennie reckons Alfredo Morelos 'can't touch' Jota as he responded to Kris Boyd's claim that the Rangers hitman was the best player in Scotland.

The former Light Blues and Kilmarnock striker was on pundit duty during Sky Sports' coverage of the Edinburgh derby between Hibs and Hearts as he rejected Scott Allan's claim over Jota being the No1 player in the league, arguing that the Colombia international should be the man at the top of the podium.

Now Celtic hero Macca has had his say and he reckons Boyd's remarks are well wide of the mark insisting that the former Benfica man has the potential to play for any club in any league. He believes even in his bad games this campaign he will still be 7/10 which will make him an extraordinary player. McAvennie did point out that Morelos is Rangers' best player and hailed him for his importance to the Light Blues, especially with his goals, but says he can't touch the Celtic star when it comes to natural ability and flair.

Ange Postecoglou brought the attacker on loan from Benfica last season and after quickly establishing himself as a key man and fans' favourite, he made it a priority to get the permanent £6.5million deal over the line to retain his services for years to come.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Macca said: “It’s all about opinions but Jota was outstanding in his first year at the club and clearly now wants to take it to another level.

"The safe thing to say is he’ll be the most-fouled player this season and that’s the sign of someone who’s a game-changer.

"When he was good he was superb last time out, but there were a few games where he didn’t quite show up. Even then though he still put in a shift and did the hard work.

“In this campaign I think that even in his bad games he’ll be a 7/10, which will make him extraordinary. Jota has the potential to play for anybody in any league.

“He’s so comfortable on the ball and I’m really looking forward to watching him every time he plays.

He continued: “Morelos is Rangers’ best player.

“He brings other people into the game and, most importantly, he scores goals, but is he a better player than Jota? I don’t think so. Listen, Morelos works hard for his team but he can’t touch Jota when it comes to flair and natural ability and long may it continue for the boy.

“No one can shine in every single game but even when Jota’s form dips, his work rate doesn’t.”
