Rams miraculously match season high in points with 31 in first half vs. Broncos

By now you’ve probably heard the Los Angeles Rams have one of the worst offenses in the NFL this season. They came into Week 16 with the second-fewest points scored in the league, but you’d never know that by watching them in the first half against the Broncos’ third-ranked defense.

Somehow, perhaps thanks to a Christmas miracle, the Rams erupted for 31 points in the first 30 minutes against the Broncos. Their 31 points match a season high in any game this season, tying the 31 points they scored against the Falcons in Week 2.

Their 17 first-quarter points are also their most since Week 6 of the 2017 season, getting touchdowns from Cam Akers and Tyler Higbee in the first 15 minutes of the game.

Akers and Higbee each added touchdowns in the second quarter to make it 31-6 Rams before halftime, jumping out to their biggest lead of the season. It was a shocking development for an offense that only scored more than 20 points once since Week 6 and only topped 24 points once all year.

The Broncos are no slouches on defense, either. That made the Rams’ offensive outburst even more shocking because Denver had no answer for Akers, Higbee or Baker Mayfield.

Akers had 90 yards from scrimmage in the first half, Higbee had 84 yards and two touchdowns and Mayfield went a near-perfect 18-for-20 for 185 yards and two touchdowns.
