Rams had dismal turnover-filled first half vs. 49ers

The first half of Sunday’s game looked like something out of peewee football for the Los Angeles Rams, who struggled mightily against the San Francisco 49ers en route to a 7-3 deficit at the break. They mustered only 135 total yards and turned the ball over three times, two of which were by Jared Goff.

He threw an ugly interception to a wide-open Richard Sherman with no receiver within 3 yards of the cornerback. Then later on, he tried to scramble for a first down and attempted to juke Jimmie Ward, who knocked the ball out and forced the fumble, which was recovered by the 49ers.

Malcolm Brown committed the first turnover of the game, however, when he lost a fumble on the Rams’ opening drive. In total, here’s how the Rams’ first eight possessions went.

  1. Fumble
  2. Field goal
  3. Interception
  4. Punt
  5. Punt
  6. Punt
  7. Fumble
  8. Kneeldown

The Rams have to turn things around in the second half if they want to win this game and keep a lead in the NFC West. But with Goff turning it over twice and the ground game doing very little to spark the offense, it’s hard to be optimistic.
