Rams acquire RB Sony Michel from Patriots for two draft picks

The running back position has taken a beating for the Los Angeles Rams this summer, with Cam Akers, Darrell Henderson Jr. and Raymond Calais all suffering injuries of varying severity. In an attempt to add some depth, the Rams are trading two late-round picks to the Patriots for Sony Michel.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the news on Wednesday morning. The Rams then confirmed the deal a little while later.

Michel joins a backfield of Henderson, Jake Funk and Xavier Jones, adding depth and experience to the room in L.A. In three NFL seasons, Michel has rushed for 2,292 yards and 14 touchdowns on 535 carries (4.3 YPC), playing 38 games with 28 starts.

The Patriots drafted Michel in the first round in 2018 out of Georgia. He’s failed to live up to expectations as a former first-rounder, never topping 1,000 yards in a season and missing seven games last year.

But Michel is a proven player who will help the Rams this season, especially with the running back room banged up.
