Days after he was pulled up for bizarre remarks accusing Hamdard’s Rooh Afza of “sharbat jihad”, Patanjali founder Baba Ramdev has again drawn flak from the Delhi High Court, according to LiveLaw.
Justice Amit Bansal Thursday reportedly found Ramdev to be prima facie in contempt of its previous order wherein he was directed not to issue any statements or advertisements or social media posts linked to Hamdard’s Rooh Afza. Ramdev had also agreed to take down all such remarks against the product.
Despite the order and the written undertaking, Hamdard’s legal team presented material on Thursday suggesting that Ramdev had once again released a video containing similar content.
Hamdard had filed a case against Patanjali and Ramdev over the “sharbat jihad” remarks, which Ramdev had made while promoting Patanjali’s rose drink. Ramdev had claimed the money earned is used to build madrasas and mosques, but later said he had not named any brand or community.
“In view of the last order, his affidavit as well as this video are prima facie in contempt. I will issue a contempt notice now. We are just calling him here,” the court said, adding that Ramdev lives in his own world and is not in anyone’s control, according to LiveLaw.
This is not the first time Patanjali has landed in such a controversy. Patanjali founders Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna were pulled up in court for the company's misleading advertisements against evidence-based medicine. They had also been found to be in breach of their statement that they would not telecast or publish such misleading ads.
Newslaundry earlier reported that there was plenty of blame to go around for Patanjali’s misleading ads fiasco. Read here.
