A month of holy fasting and communal prayer for Muslims began in London this week.
Ramadan is one of the most important dates in the Islamic calendar — a period of collective abstinence and reflection on faith. It is based around the lunar cycle, so the dates of Ramadan rotate by about ten days each year.
This year, Ramadan begins on the evening of Tuesday February 17 and ends on the evening of Wednesday 18 March or Thursday 19 March, according to Islamic Relief.
Every day, there are five prayers: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha.
