Rajasthan: Two Barmer families ostracised, fined Rs 35 lakh over marriage

JAISALMER: The terror of caste panchayats in villages is increasing day by day.

In a case of love marriage in Barmer's Siwana Ladurda village, two families have been socially boycotted and a penalty of Rs 35 lakh has been imposed. A case was lodged against the caste panchs at Siwana police station. Police have not taken any action so far. Therefore, the family members of the both families have written a letter to the district collector And sought permission for euthanasia.

According to sources, victims Khangar Singh and Faujraj Singh's cousin daughter married Siwana's prem singh. Due to this a few people in the village are socially harassing them and planned to boycott them. By getting them falsely trapped the people started conspiring secretly against the victim and started threatening to boycott whereas in this case the victim's family says that they have nothing to do with this love marriage. Still all preparations were made to socially boycott them and finally the people called a panchayat and ordered Khangar Singh and Faujraj Singh to deposit Rs 17 lakh each. Later, the victim families lodged a case against the caste panchs at Siwana police station through the court on August 7, 2021.

Siwana SHO Premaram said that the investigating officer is probing the case. The victims have lodged cases against caste panch Maadhu Singh, Bhanwar Singh, Vagad Singh, Ram Singh and Shaitan Singh. The allegation of the victim families is that these panchs got both victims to deposit security of Rs 51,000 each and imposed a penalty of Rs 34 lakh. When they expressed their inability to deposit the penalty, the caste panchs abused both brothers. The panchs also said that if anybody advocates for these brothers, then a penalty of Rs 2 lakh will be imposed on them, he said.

On July 15, 2021 the victim families were called before the caste panchs and socially boycotted them. The victim gave a report in the court. After the court's order the case was lodged on August 7. But even passing after 20 days police have not taken any action on Friday the 22 members of the victim families demanded euthanasia from the district collector.
