JAIPUR: In two separate incidents, police in Alwar and Dholpur on Tuesday rescued 50 bovines that were being illegally transported for slaughtering. Police have arrested eight persons in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off, Bansur police seized four vehicles and rescued 22 cows being illegally transported to Haryana via Alwar during early hours of Tuesday. “Out of the 22 cows, two were already dead,” said an officer of Bansur police station.
Police arrested eight persons for illegal transportation of the cows and have registered a case under appropriate sections of Rajasthan Bovine Act. “Out of the eight arrested, three were held for smuggling and rest for facilitating illegal transportation of cows and safe passage to smugglers,” the officer added.
In Sepau police station area of Dholpur, a container truck carrying 28 bulls was seized at 2.45am on Tuesday. However, taking advantage of the darkness, the smugglers fled. “We got an input that a truck was parked near Bara village under Seupau police station area in which 28 bulls were kept. Acting on the information, a team reached the spot and asked the smugglers to surrender. The smugglers taking the advantage of the darkness fled but the bovines were rescued,” the officer added.
