The Sydney Sixers' bid to reclaim top spot on the WBBL ladder has been foiled by rain, with their match against the lowly-ranked Melbourne Renegades washed out.
The Renegades were 1-64 after 11 overs on Thursday when players were forced off Junction Oval due to rain.
Chamari Athapaththu (16no) and Erica Kershaw (4no) were at the crease at the time, with opener Hayley Matthews (40 off 41 balls) the only batter to fall.
No further play was possible, with the teams awarded one point each for the abandoned match.
The Brisbane Heat surged to top spot on Wednesday with a 33-run win over defending champions Perth Scorchers.
The Sixers would have retaken top spot with a win over the Renegades, but the washout means they are forced to settle for second spot for now.
However, the Sixers have played one fewer game than the Heat, meaning their destiny is still in their hands in the race for top spot.
Whoever finishes on top will automatically qualify for the final - a path the Scorchers successfully took last year.
Thursday's result lifted the Renegades from last to seventh, but they are six points adrift of fourth spot and are almost certain to miss the finals even if they win their remaining four matches.
