Rail services cancelled after person hit by train in Lanarkshire

Train services have been disrupted after a person was hit by a train in Scotland today.

The horrific incident took place between the village of Blackridge in West Lothian and Caldercruix in North Lanarkshire just before 3pm.

As a result of the incident all lines are closed as emergency services attend the scene.

The age, sex and condition of the person is currently unknown.

ScotRail announced that all services between Edinburgh and Helensburgh Central via Airdrie will be cancelled, delayed or terminated at and started back from Bathgate.

A tweet from ScotRail reads: "Sadly, due to a person being hit by a train between Blackridge and Caldercruix all lines are closed at the moment.

"Train services between Edinburgh and Helensburgh Central via Airdrie will be cancelled, delayed or terminated at and started back from Bathgate.

"We're working closely with the emergency services at the moment and I'll update you all as soon as I can."

A British Transport Police spokesperson told the Record: "Officers are in attendance at the moment.

"We were called to Caldercruix station at 3.01pm on 16/06.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."

The Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
