Raiders QB Derek Carr’s supporting cast ranked No. 14 entering 2020 season

Derek Carr didn’t get a lot of help from his supporting cast last season, that much is true. While Darren Waller had a breakout season and the running game was more than fine, his wide receivers let him down time and time again.

That is why Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden decided to invest heavily in the receiving corps this offseason, adding the likes of Henry Ruggs, Bryan Edwards and Nelson Agholor. While there is a lot to be excited about with this group, how does Carr’s supporting cast rank among the rest of the NFL?

According to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, pretty good. According to the site, Carr has the No. 14 supporting cast in the NFL with superstars at running back and tight end. Here is a snippet of what Knox had to say about Carr’s weapons:

“Rookie running back Josh Jacobs proved to be a true every-down back and was one of the top candidates for Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. Rookie wideout Hunter Renfrow proved to be a reliable pass-catcher, while tight end Darren Waller had his first 1,000-yard season. With Tyrell Williams, Nelson Agholor and rookie speedster Henry Ruggs III rounding out the receiving corps, Carr’s supporting cast has both a high floor and an extremely high ceiling.”

The biggest question mark for the Raiders is how quickly Henry Ruggs and Bryan Edwards can develop as their outside receiver spot is the only “weak” spot on the offense. If one of the two can produce even adequate play this season, this will be one of the best supporting casts in all of the NFL. This is an offense that isn’t all that far away from becoming one of the very best in the league.
