Raiders’ initial practice squad is set for 2019 season

The Raiders put the finishing touches, for now, anyway, on their 10-man practice squad. Most of the group spent time with Oakland during training camp, but there are some unfamiliar names on the list.

Linebacker Justin Phillips, running back Crockett Damarea and tight end Eric Saubert join familiar players such as cornerback Nick Nelson, a fourth-round pick of the Raiders last season. Wide receiver Marcell Ateman and defensive end Quinton Bell, Oakland’s seventh-round picks the last two years, will also continue to work with the Raiders coaching staff.

The most promising player in this group could be defensive tackle Anthony Rush, however. Undrafted out of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Rush weighs a massive 350 pounds and moved offensive lineman with ease in the preseason. In the end, he was too raw to be ready for a 53-man roster at this stage of his career.

But the best part about the practice squad being formed is that the Raiders roster is ready to roll for the regular season. First up: the Broncos at home on Monday Night Football.
