Report: Raiders in ‘meaningful and productive’ negotiations to play in Oakland in 2019

Emotions were high on Christmas Eve when the Raiders played what was thought to be the last game at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. But according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Michael Gehlken, there will be more time for Bay Area fans to say goodbye to their beloved Raiders. Here’s what the executive director of the Coliseum Authority, Scott McKibben, told Gehlken.

“I will confirm that we, late last week, started sitting down and talking with the Raiders about the potential of a 2019 season deal. In my view, the discussions have been meaningful and productive,” McKibben said.

Raiders owner Mark Davis reneged on his informal lease agreement with the Coliseum after the city of Oakland sued him for moving his team to Las Vegas for the 2020 season. Since then, a number of sites have been targeted by the Raiders, including San Francisco’s Oracle Park and Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

But the Raiders are still without a temporary home. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was expecting a resolution by now, so the clock is ticking on Davis. In a win for Bay Area fans, it looks increasingly like he’ll have to bury any grudge he had toward Oakland and stay another season, as was originally planned.
