The roster turnover for the Raiders has begun as Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels enter Year 2. Gone are Derek Carr and Darren Waller and in are former Patriots players, such as Jimmy Garoppolo, Jakobi Meyers, and Brian Hoyer.
While it’s hard to know for sure if the roster is “better” than they were a year ago, changes needed to be made. But has their process and strategy been ideal this offseason?
In a recent article by Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, he graded every team’s off-season moves. The Raiders received an overall grade of “B” for several budget-friendly moves on both sides of the ball. Here is what Knox had to say about the offseason so far for Las Vegas:
The Raiders mostly added budget free agents on defense, but that’s OK. They ranked 28th in yards allowed and 26th in points allowed last year, so they’re not going to get much worse defensively.
It hasn’t been a spectacular offseason for the Raiders, which probably won’t make a huge leap in 2023. However, they’ve done a good job of turning over the roster and starting to build the team McDaniels and Ziegler want.
The draft is still going to be the most important part of the offseason for the Raiders. With 12 picks and four inside the top 100, they need to find at least three starters and several other contributors in this class. If they can do that, the Raiders should be a much better team in 2023.
