Rafael van der Vaart pokes fun at former Arsenal star with favourite Tottenham memory

Rafael van der Vaart will have split loyalties when Tottenham face Ajax in the Champions League semi-finals.

The two clubs have enjoyed excellent runs to the last four of the competition and one of them will be in Madrid in the final on June 1.

Van der Vaart came through the prestigious Ajax academy and spent over five years in the first-team before departing in 2005.

He would join Tottenham five years later and became a real fans favourite during his time in north London.

The Dutchman insists it is a win-win situation for him but refused to claim who he will be supporting.

Robin van Persie brands Spurs lucky - but makes big Champions League final claim

But he insists Tottenham 'holds a special place in my heart' and one match stands out for him in particular.

Van der Vaart scored twice in a 3-3 draw with Arsenal at White Hart Lane in April 2011.

"One of the best thing was to put the ball between Jack Wilshere’s legs two times. We had so much fun these years and that was the best thing for me," Van der Vaart told the Mail.

Winning Champions League is Spurs' destiny says Victor Wanyama

On his time with Spurs, he adds: "It was possibly the best club team I ever played in. Talent, spirit. Also the coach, Harry Redknapp, we would run through fire for him.

"It was a joy to play. White Hart Lane, I can’t describe it in words. When I was there on the pitch, I felt like I was flying. This game with Ajax brings up special feelings."
