Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw claims he 'projectile vomited' after smoking drugs with Drake

Nick Grimshaw is telling his life story like never before, including the night he threw up after smoking cannabis for what appeared to be the first time.

The former Radio 1 star has hit the headlines over the years for his rock and roll lifestyle, as well as seriously famous friendships with the likes of Harry Styles and Kate Moss.

Despite enjoying some of the wildest showbiz parties, one night has stuck with Nick, although he might not want to remember it – while it certainly entertained his friends.

Nick, 38, is set to delve into the archives of his life, from a humble youngster born in Oldham, to one of the most recognisable names in the industry.

In an excerpt from his memoir, Soft Lad, which is released on October 23, recalled the time he was invited to Drake's recording studio by Florence Welch after the 2010 MTV VMAs.

He wrote: "Drake played some tunes and Flo wailed along while someone passed around a comedy-sized cartoon-like spliff.

"I chuffed down on it and smiled at Drake."

Just moments after taking a hit, the star started to feel queasy, adding: "I stepped a foot outside and proceeded to projectile vomit for what felt like 30 minutes.

"I stepped back in, pale and smelling slightly of vom, the room erupted into a fit of laughter.

"I looked up to see a CCTV screen showing the exact location of the vom incident, I had it live streamed into the studio."

Elsewhere, Nick revealed that his former co-star and pal Annie Mac was left speechless when she had rocked up to collect him from Kate Moss' home in Highgate, north London.

"She was open-mouthed, imagine ten p***ed-up people in Kate's garden and George Michael sauntering around," he wrote.

Grimmy found fame on Radio 1 back in 2007, co-presenting with Annie before going on to land the prestigious Radio 1 Breakfast show in 2012.

Just six years later in 2018, the star made the decision to walk away from the show and moved to the Drivetime slot – before leaving the network in 2021.

Reflecting on his decision to leave Radio 1, Nick told Newsbeat: "I've worked there for 14 years and interviewed literally everybody, twice."

However, the first lockdown period hit, which left Nick to think "What else could I be doing?"

He said: "I wanted to leave at a time when I was still loving it."
