Racist thug spat on Glasgow police officer and hurled abuse during arrest

A racist thug who spat at a police officer was jailed for 18 months.

Darren McGeachy, 26, lashed out at constable Thomas Provan at a Glasgow police station on July 19 2022. McGeachy was earlier arrested having assaulted his partner and threw a bottle from the 10th floor of a block of flats in the city's Knightswood.

McGeachy also hurled abuse stating: "You are a dirty black b******, you are f***ing p**i scum."

McGeachy pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting the officer as well as Brodie McGregor. He also admitted culpable and reckless conduct as well as behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

The court heard that McGeachy argued with Miss McGregor. He then dropped a half bottle of Buckfast and a lighter from the 10 th floor of the tower block.

McGeachy also shouted at passers-by before leaving the flat then returned two hours later acting in a "frantic manner."

Prosecutor Heather Naismith said: "He pushed and pulled Miss McGregor seizing her by the wrist then pulled her to the ground. While doing so, his fingernails dug into her leaving her bleeding with visible red scratches."

McGeachy ordered her to call the police which she did and officers arrived. He was noted to brandish a knife from the window which was later recovered.

McGeachy was handcuffed where he made the racist remarks as well as called officers: "F***ing paedo b*******s."

He also complained about the handcuffs being too tight and claimed that officers were trying to break his arm.

Miss Naismith said: "Prior to being conveyed to the custody suite, he spat on PC Provan with the saliva landing on the face and body."

Scott Adair, defending, told the court that McGeachy had taken drugs that day.

The lawyer stated there was an altercation with the passers-by at the flat where he was chased back inside and asked Miss Brodie to call the police.

Sheriff Barry Divers granted a five-year non-harassment order restricting McGeachy's contact with Miss Brodie.
