R. Kelly officially asks Trump to commute his 30-year sex crime sentence

  • R&B singer R. Kelly has officially asked Donald Trump to commute his 30-year prison sentence for sex crimes .
  • Kelly was convicted in 2021 of federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges in New York.
  • His attorneys submitted the request for commutation to the Justice Department , which was made public this week.
  • In addition to being convicted in 2021, R. Kelly was sentenced in 2023 to 20 years in prison for child sex crimes, which he is serving concurrently.
  • He was found guilty in Chicago of coercing three minors into criminal sexual activity and producing three child sexual abuse videos.
