Chris Brown: R&B superstar charged with GBH over alleged bottle attack in trendy Mayfair nightclub

R&B superstar Chris Brown has been charged with GBH over an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub.

Met Police officers arrested the 36-year-old US star just after 2am on Thursday at the five-star Lowry Hotel in Manchester, The Sun reported.

Just after 11.30pm on Thursday night, the force and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed Brown had been charged with grievous bodily harm.

Adele Kelly, the Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, said: “We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown with one count of grievous bodily harm, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.

“The alleged incident occurred in London on 19 February 2023.

“He will have his first court appearance on Friday 16 May at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.

“It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

The Met earlier confirmed an arrest was made following an incident at a venue in Hanover Square, Mayfair, on February 19, 2023.

Brown was accused by Abraham Diaw of launching an unprovoked attack on him while the star and his entourage were at a Dirty Martini club night held at trendy Tape nightclub.

Brown was on a worldwide tour and playing in the UK at the time of the alleged attack.

The R&B was arrested when he flew into Manchester Airport on a private jet on Wednesday afternoon ahead of his latest tour.

The Standard has approached Brown’s representative for comment.

The arrest comes just over three weeks before the singer is due to launch his Breezy Bowl XX world tour.

Scheduled UK dates include two days - June 21 and 22 - at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Brown is expected to spend the night in custody before appearing for his first court hearing in Manchester from 10am.
