Quincy Williams returns to practice on Tuesday

After watching Cam Robinson and Marqise Lee return earlier this month, the Jacksonville Jaguars received some more good news as far as injuries go on Tuesday. Rookie linebacker Quincy Williams returned to the field and resumed practicing after having a minor procedure to fix a meniscus tear.

It was initially reported that Williams would be sidelined for a few weeks on Aug. 1 which was 26 days ago, so it appears the young rookie had a speedy recovery. Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Williams had arthroscopic surgery to trim his meniscus, which has a short recovery time. That said, all signs began to point up when Williams began running last week, and now he will be taking the field against the Kansas City Chiefs (likely as a starter) come Week 1.

Williams, who is the younger brother of New York Jets first-round pick Quinnen Williams, was taken in the third-round (No. 98 overall) of this April’s draft. The big deal with him was that he was relatively unknown in the draft community, but based on how he’s practiced, it looks like the Jags made a smart decision.

With the Jags taking on the Atlanta Falcons during their preseason finale, it remains to be seen if coach Doug Marrone will play Williams Thursday to get his feet wet. However, he’s been playing it smart with the Jags’ starters so he may elect to hold the rookie out.
